The word entrepot comes from French, it means “sealed storage place”. 

In the past, people in Amsterdam had to pay both import and export duties, 

this happened when leaving the Enterepot site. 

There are 84 monumental warehouses, the oldest warehouses of the complex are building after 1708. 

Since 1984, the warehouses have been converted into homes.
