The statue of the painter Rembrandt van Rijn is the oldest surviving statue in Amsterdam.
It was created in 1852 by the Belgian sculptor Louis Royer (1793-1868) co-founder of the
Amsterdam artists' association Arti en Amicitiae in 1839.
