Rembrandt Hamerszoon van Rijn (1606-1669) is one of the most important painters of the 17th century. 

The statue of the painter Rembrandt van Rijn is the oldest surviving statue in Amsterdam. 

It was created in 1852 by the Belgian sculptor Louis Royer (1793-1868) co-founder of the 

Amsterdam artists' association Arti en Amicitiae in 1839.
