The Noorderkerk is a Protestant church built between 1620 and 1623.
Designed by Hendrick de Keyser (1565-1621), who also designed the Zuider and Westerkerk.
After the death of Hendrickde Keyser, the church was finished by his son Pieter de Keyzer (1595-1676).
The plan of the church consists of a Greek cross, two arms
of equal length in combination with an octagon.
The pulpit is in the middle so that the pastor is in the center of the churchgoers.
The church does not have a large tower but a small crossing tower, made
by the city carpenter Hendrik Jacobsz Staets (1558-1630) and the
city mason Cornelis Danckerts de Ry (1561-1634).
A number of service houses have been built next to the church.
