Metro station Rokin is one of the stations of the North South line.
The design is by Benthem Crouwel Architects. The station is located
at a depth of 21.5 meters below NAP (Normaal Amsterdams Peil).
The last part of the Amstel from the Spui to the Dam was filled in in 1936.
During the construction of the station, archaeologists made various finds
of objects that had ended up in the river over the centuries.
Urban archaeologist Jerzy Gawronski (1955) and artist Daniel Dewar (1976)
made a selection of the 700,000 objects and incorporated them in the display cases
between the escalators of the station. Along both sides of the platform,
the artists Daniel Dewar and Grégory Giquel (1975) have enlarged
everyday objects and displayed them on the walls as a mosaic.
