The Helios building was designed by G.van Arkel (1858-1918) in Art Nouveau style.

Built for photographer Max Büttinghausen (1847-1906) who occupied the top two floors.

On the top floor was the photo studio with a glass roof.Büttinghausen gives the building

the name Helios because it refers to heliography, the photographic process for photography

at the time. On the ground floor art dealership B.L. Voskuil established and beer cellar in the basement

'zum Barbarossa'. In 1900, the design of the Helios building won third prize in the

French architecture competition of the World Exhibition.
